How to Mirror Android Screen to Windows PC Using Miracast (No Apps Required)

Android users may want to mirror their phone screen to a computer so they can easily share content with a group of people, such as high-definition videos, photos or presentations. Some users also prefer playing mobile games on a larger screen for a better gaming experience. There are several ways to mirror an Android phone to a computer. For example, you can download a screen mirroring app from Google Play and install a client program on your computer, or enable USB debugging and connect the phone to the computer using a USB cable with desktop mirroring software.

Local screen mirroring vs remote casting

If you only need to cast your mobile phone screen to a computer on the same local network, without remote control or screen sharing over the Internet, you can use built-in features without installing any third-party apps. Many recent Android phones and Windows computers support Miracast, a wireless display standard that allows you to mirror your Android screen to a compatible device such as a Windows PC.

Step 1 – Connect Android and PC to the same Wi-Fi network

Connect both your Android phone and Windows PC to the same Wi-Fi network. This guide focuses on screen mirroring within the same local network (for example, in the same room), not remote casting from a different location.

Step 2 – Set up Wireless Display on Windows PC

Both Windows 10 and Windows 11 support the Projecting to this PC feature. In this example, we are using a Windows 11 computer.

  1. Click the Start menu from the Windows taskbar.
  2. Go to Settings > System > Projecting to this PC.
  3. If this is your first time using the feature, you need to install Wireless Display.
  4. Click Optional features.
  5. Next to Add an optional feature, click View features.
  6. Search for Wireless Display.
  7. Tick the checkbox and click Next > Install.

Once installed, go back to Settings > System > Projecting to this PC and configure the following options:

  • Set Available everywhere or Available everywhere on secure networks
  • Enable Require PIN for pairing if you want extra security
  • Set Ask to project to this PC to Every time or First time only
  • Click Launch the Wireless Display app

Your Windows PC is now ready to receive screen mirroring.

Step 3 – Cast Android screen to Windows PC

On your Android phone or tablet:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Connected devices
  3. Tap Cast, Screen Mirroring, or Wireless Display (the name varies by device)
  4. Tap the three-dot menu and enable Wireless display
  5. Select your Windows PC from the list
  6. Approve the connection on your computer if prompted

Your Android screen should now appear on your Windows PC.
