On Android devices, Notification Access is a special permission that some apps may request. Understanding it can help you protect your personal information while still enjoying all the benefits of notifications.
Notifications vs. Notification Access
It’s easy to confuse the two, but they are very different:
- Notifications
- Alerts from apps that appear as banners, icons, or pop-ups.
- Inform you about events, updates, or messages.
- Do not give apps access to data from other apps.
- Notification Access
- A permission that lets certain apps read notifications from other apps.
- Commonly requested by apps that manage, automate, or customize notifications.
- Most apps do not need this permission to work.

Note: iOS does not currently have an equivalent feature. Apple restricts apps from accessing notifications from other apps to protect user privacy.
